This lively piece
encourages good flexibility in the bow arm and wrist. String crossings
are used and should be played in the middle of the bow. The melodic
line is shared throughout the orchestra, including a pizzicato solo for
Double Bass, which is doubled in the piano part if required. Teachers
should note that there is time to put the bow down, but can elect to
play the solo arco, with short bows, if desired. During the solo, the
other parts should remain soft in the tremolos, observing the slight
crescendo and decrescendo markings.
